Dupo CUSD #196 Fundraising: Understanding the Differences

Dupo Community Unit School District #196 values the support of our parents and community. We want to clarify the different types of fundraising activities that occur within and around our district.

1. District-Approved Fundraisers:

  • Definition: These are fundraising activities directly organized and conducted by Dupo CUSD #196 schools or departments.

  • Approval Process: All district-approved fundraisers require a formal approval process. A designated form must be completed by a staff member and submitted to the building principal for review and approval before any fundraising activity begins.

  • Identification: All district-approved fundraiser flyers and materials will clearly state: "Dupo CUSD #196 Approved Fundraiser."

  • Financial Oversight: Funds raised through district-approved fundraisers are managed and audited by the school district.

  • Accountability: Questions or concerns regarding district-approved fundraisers should be directed to the school administration or the Superintendent's office.

2. Independent Parent Group Fundraisers:

  • Definition: These are fundraising activities organized and conducted by independent parent groups that are separate entities from Dupo CUSD #196. Examples include:

    • Booster Club

    • Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO/PTA)

    • Class-specific parent groups (e.g., "Parents for Class of 2025")

  • Independent Status: These groups operate independently and are responsible for their own financial management and decision-making.

  • No District Oversight: Dupo CUSD #196 does not audit the financial activities of these independent parent groups.

  • Donations to the District: If these groups make monetary donations to the district, those specific donations are reported to the district auditor.

  • Accountability:

    • Questions or concerns about the procedures or financial management of these fundraisers should be directed to the chairperson or designated contact person of the specific parent group.

Key Takeaways:

  • Look for the "Dupo CUSD #196 Approved Fundraiser" statement on any fundraising materials to identify district-approved activities.

  • Independent parent groups are separate entities with their own financial management.

  • If you have questions and concerns, please reach out to the appropriate group or district representative.

We appreciate your continued support of Dupo CUSD #196 and our students.
