DUPO, IL – Students from Dupo High School's electrical vocational class recently traded the classroom for the hands-on experience of a field trip to the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 309 union hall. The visit provided a valuable glimpse into the world of professional electricians and the opportunities available to them after graduation.
The students were given a comprehensive tour of the IBEW 309 training facilities, where they witnessed firsthand the advanced machinery and equipment used by skilled electricians. From conduit bending to complex wiring setups, the students were able to observe and learn about the practical applications of their classroom studies.
Safety was a key focus of the visit, with experienced union members emphasizing the importance of proper procedures and precautions in the electrical trade. Students also learned about the various apprenticeship programs offered by IBEW 309, which provide a structured pathway to becoming a certified electrician.
The trip served as a powerful reminder of the importance of vocational training and the opportunities it can provide to students in the Dupo community.
