Race to the Finish

The Dupo cross country team had their first meet of the season on August 31 at Mascoutah. Coach of 10 years Kris Mendoza was very impressed with the season so far. Coach Mendoza stated, “I think we have the potential this year to make a mark if all our pieces can come together at the right time.” This year, there are six seniors: Ashley Merrell, Jacob Beatte, Wyatt Brown, Kaitlynn Townsend, Mason Reyes, and Aubrie Moyer. Second year assistant Coach Huelskamp believes, “After the first meet I think expectations are high. I want a boys and a girls conference title. I also think the boys can make it to sectionals.” Both coaches are aiming high this season as they both want the boys' and girls' teams to win their conference titles. With everyone working hard and staying focused, the Dupo cross country team hopes to have a great season. The next meet is Saturday, September 7th in Granite City.
